What If We Believed It
The Word of God is a staple all throughout humanity. Governments were built and their foundations were set in the Word. It’s used to comfort people who typically don’t believe in it when heartbreak strikes. It’s misquoted, mis-tweeted, miscommunicated, and often misrepresented but IT. IS. ALIVE. John’s gospel says, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” John 1:1-4 (ESV)
You were in His mind in the beginning. Life was in Jesus from the dawn of time and He knew that His life would be the LIGHT of Your Life.
Verse five says, “The light shines in the darkness; and the darkness has not overcome it.”
I’ve not yet been given the blessing of being a parent yet (mainly because I haven't become a wife yet) but I already have things on a Pinterest board full of bedroom decor, outfits, birthday parties, and all kinds of ideas for my future babies! I don't even know them yet, but I love them and pray for them and want them to have lived full of the LIGHT of God! I have some dear friends who just had their first baby and in the months leading up to her arrival, it was amazing to see the way their nursery evolved. It went from being a simple room to being an absolutely stunning room with scripture on the walls and love and care in every little nook and cranny.
We care about the situations surrounding our children's arrivals, their lives, their entire upbringings. We care about the details and the big things. Some people literally move across the country so their child can grow up in a better atmosphere. We do whatever we can for our children.
“If you then, evil (sinful by nature) as you are, know how to give good and advantageous gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven, perfect as He is, give what is good and advantageous to those who keep on asking Him.” MATTHEW 7:11 (AMP)
What if we believed that?
He's a good Father and that's so much more than a nice song. It changes everything. When time began, you were in His thoughts, we see that time and time again in Scripture. You are the crown of creation, the apple of His eye, the one whose name is written into His palm, the one He sent His Son to die for because He longed to bring you close to His heart.
“He who did not spare even His own Son, but gave Him up for us all, how will He not also, along with Him, graciously give us all things?” ROMANS 8:32 (AMP)
This is why we can face the darkest nights, the hardest storms, and the deepest heartache with joy, hope, and peace.
“And we know with great confidence that God who is deeply concerned about us causes all things to work together as a plan for good for those who love God, to those who are called according to His plan and purpose.” Romans 8:28 (AMP)
If He's as sovereign as the Word says, if He loves us as much as the cross says, and if He is as powerful as the empty tomb declares then this verse changes our reality. He is CAUSING, actively moving and not passive about it at all, all things, not just some things, not just BIG things and not just “religious” things, to work together for our good. Not for our comfort or our happiness, but our GOOD.
“...we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not disappoint.” Romans 5:3-5 (ESV)
We see that things that even seem painful are working together for our good! He doesn't waste a thing. He's writing your story, my story, with His great big Papa heart overflowing with love and kindness.
