What Then...

“31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?... 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or danger, or sword? ... 37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us 38 For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, 39 nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
(Romans 8:31,35,37-39 ESV)

Romans 8 has said to be one of the most important chapters in all of scripture. It walks us through gospel and explains just how incredible it is that we are now “In Christ.” It all ties together right here. “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31 ESV)  We are given this incredible look at all Jesus has done for us and how great the love of the Father is and it’s here that Paul summarizes it all by reminding us that in all of this- God. Is. For. Us.

In my life, the Lord has shown me a lot with this verse. I believe that it means a little bit beyond what is often said. OF COURSE people are still going to be against us. Who can be against us? Lots of people! Jesus even said that the world would hate us because it hated Him, so what does Paul mean?

Lately, the media has been buzzing about Prince Harry recently getting engaged to American actress Meghan Markle- it’s like a modern fairy tale! No matter how perfect they may seem as a couple, I’m sure there are groups of people who are opposed to the two for whatever reason they may scrap together… but it doesn’t matter? Who can oppose the royal couple? Prince Harry wasn’t allowed to propose before asking Queen Elizabeth herself for approval since he is 5th in line for the throne. The Queen has approved of the couple- who can oppose them? Though many can, their opinions and protests don’t matter and won’t change the goodness to come. The same goes for us. If the Father has approved of us, brought us into His family, and made us co-heirs with Christ- no matter who may be against us, their opinions and protests don’t matter and won’t change the goodness to come. He will never let anyone steal His beloved.

No matter what scheme the devil has up his sleeve, no matter the attack planned, nothing can steal us from the Lord. Christ has already won us and purchased us and nothing can undo that. I, personally, believe that we ourselves cannot even undo it! Even if we try to run away, He pursues after us and brings us back to Himself.

No matter where you are this holiday season- whether it be the best yet or the hardest, know that He came for you and nothing can separate you from His great love.

There’s no shadow You won’t light up,
Mountain You won’t climb up,
Coming after me
There’s no wall you won’t kick down,
Lie you won’t tear down,
Coming after me
